Wolds Gymnastics Club proudly represented themselves at the prestigious British Gymnastics Championships in the U14 Men’s Artistic competition, taking on some of the best young gymnasts from across the country.

This competition marked a significant milestone for the club, as it was the first time Wolds Gymnastics Club has had gymnasts qualify for and compete at this level. Reaching a national championship is a major achievement and reflects the continued progress of both the athletes and the club as a whole.

Competing in this environment provided an important opportunity for the gymnasts to test themselves, and all three handled the occasion well, delivering composed routines across all six apparatus.

Strong All-Around Efforts

In the all-around competition, Wolds gymnasts showed consistency across a demanding day. Oakley Gill produced the club’s highest finish in 32nd place with a score of 61.650, closely followed by Max De Luca in 34th with 61.500. Harvey Mathewson completed the group in 37th place with 61.150.

Performing across floor, pommel, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar at this level requires both physical preparation and competition experience, and all three gymnasts demonstrated a solid base to build from.

Apparatus Highlights

Across the individual apparatus, there were several encouraging performances. On rings, Max De Luca achieved a top-10 finish in 9th place with a score of 10.800, which stands out as one of the strongest results of the competition for the club. Harvey Mathewson also showed good control on this piece, scoring 10.150.

On parallel bars, Harvey led the Wolds group with a score of 10.600, placing joint 34th, while Max followed with 10.300. Vault scores were closely matched, with both Max and Harvey recording 10.550 in a tightly scored field, and Oakley adding 9.350.

Across floor and high bar, steady performances contributed to consistent all-around totals, reflecting the gymnasts’ ability to compete across all six pieces.

Development for the Gymnasts

This competition represents an important stage in the development of the gymnasts. Competing at national level introduces a higher standard across all areas, from execution to consistency and performance under pressure.

Experiences like this help gymnasts refine their routines, improve their ability to deliver under competition conditions, and better understand what is required to progress further within the sport. Performing full all-around routines in this environment is a key step in their long-term development.

Development for the Club

This achievement is equally important for Wolds Gymnastics Club as a whole. Having gymnasts qualify for the British Championships for the first time demonstrates the progress of the programme and the effectiveness of the coaching structure in developing all-around athletes.

It also establishes a clear benchmark for the club moving forward. With gymnasts now reaching national level, it sets a pathway for others within the programme and reinforces that progression to this stage is achievable.

Looking Ahead

This first experience at the British Championships provides a strong platform for future development. Both the gymnasts and the club now have a clearer understanding of the standards required at national level.

With continued training, experience, and the foundations already in place, Wolds Gymnastics Club is well positioned to build on this milestone and continue progressing in future competitions.
