Starting your child’s gymnastics journey is an exciting milestone, but we know it can also come with lots of questions. Whether your a parent to someone who is taking their very first gymnastics class or your child is ready to develop new skills, we’ve put together this handy guide to answer the questions we hear most often from new families.
If there’s anything we haven’t covered, our friendly team is always happy to help!
How do I sign them up?
The easiest way to get started is by joining our waiting list for the class that best suits your child’s age and ability. Once a space becomes available, we’ll be in touch with the next steps and arrange your child’s place in class. Wolds Gymnastics Club offers a variety of classes at various times for children from age 2 upwards, including Pre-School, Recreational, Development, Performance Gymnastics and more.
Which class is right for my child?
We have classes designed for every stage of a gymnast’s journey.
Pre-School Gymnastics (Ages 2-School Age) – Perfect for developing balance, coordination and confidence through fun activities in a structured and semi structured setting.
Recreational Gymnastics – Ideal for school-aged children learning and progressing through gymnastics skills for the very first time.
Development & Performance Classes – For gymnasts who are invited following a trial. (Sign Up Now)
We also offer specialist sessions including Adult Gymnastics, 1:1 coaching and more.
If you’re unsure which class is best, don’t worry - we’ll happily point you in the right direction.
What if my child has never done gymnastics before?
Do not worry! Most of our gymnasts walk through our doors having never stepped foot in a gym before. Our coaches tailor activities to suit every child, helping them build confidence, learn safely and most importantly -- have fun.
What does my child need to wear?
Your child doesn’t need an expensive leotard to get started.
Comfortable sports clothing such as leggings/shorts, and a fitted t-shirt is absolutely fine. Please avoid clothing with zips, buttons or hoods, as these can be unsafe on gymnastics equipment.
Before class, please remember to:
Tie long hair back securely.
Remove all jewellery.
Bring a bottle of water.
Most gymnastics sessions are completed in bare feet.
Can we watch?
Absolutely! We warmly welcome parents and guardians to stay and watch their child’s class if they’d like to.
If you prefer, you’re also welcome to drop off and collect your child at the end of the session.
We simply ask that you arrive back in plenty of time for collection, as prompt pick-ups help our classes run smoothly and ensure coaches can prepare for the next session.
If you think you may struggle to arrive on time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can find our contact number at the bottom of our website, and we’ll be happy to help.
What if my child is nervous?
That’s completely normal! Starting a new activity can feel like a big step, and many children are a little shy during their first few sessions. Our coaches are experienced in helping children settle in, make friends and feel comfortable in the gym.
Most children quickly discover that gymnastics is all about having fun while learning exciting new skills.
What do we do if my child has a medical condition or an injury?
Please let us know before your child’s first session.
Any medical conditions, allergies or injuries should be included on your registration details so our coaches can support your child safely throughout their gymnastics journey. If your child is unwell, we kindly ask that they stay at home until they have fully recovered to avoid this spreading further around the gym.
How does my child progress?
Our recreational gymnasts work through a structured programme designed to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and gymnastics skills over time.
Every child progresses at their own pace, and our coaches are there to encourage, support and celebrate every achievement - whether that’s a forward roll, a cartwheel or a back flick!
How long do I need to wait for a space?
We can't guarantee any time frames as our classes are extremely popular and our waiting list is large.
As soon as a space becomes avaialble we will be in touch!
So for now - Simply join our waiting list and we’ll contact you as soon as a suitable place becomes available. Popular classes can fill quickly, so joining the waiting list now is the best way to secure a future space
Want to try before committing?
Not quite ready to commit to weekly classes? Or perhaps your child would like some extra practice alongside their regular training?
Our Xtra Classes are the perfect opportunity! These sessions are open to both members and non-members, making them a great way for children to experience our gym, meet our friendly coaches and have fun before signing up for a weekly class. They’re also ideal for current gymnasts who want to build confidence, refine their skills or enjoy some extra time in the gym.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for upcoming Xtra Class dates and booking information - we’d love to welcome you to the gym!
Last but not least...
We can’t wait to welcome you into Wolds Gymnastics Club and help your child begin an exciting new adventure.
